ATY offers classes, workshops, Play in a Day, spring & winter break camps, and in-service
programming throughout the school year - with offerings for all ages and skill levels!
All classes take place at 4105 Turnagain Blvd in the Turnagain Arts Building in Spenard (unless indicated otherwise). Enter through the SOUTH ENTRANCE (the outside entrances are labeled) and ATY is immediately to the right and left.

Camps, Classes & Workshops
Drama Center Classes are back in 2024/2025!
Drama Center classes take place after school from 3-7pm. Each class is one hour long, once per week and last 4-6 weeks. Special classes and workshops take place on weekends and in-service days. Classes are $20-25 per class depending on length and frequency. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified when registration and information is available!
Escape into the magical world of fairytales! This beginner level theatre class is perfect for 5-7 year olds. As we embark on adventures laced with Royalty, Dragons, and Fairy God Parents from the safety of our classroom, this class will spark curiosity, empathy, and creative problem solving. We will use our imaginations to explore some of time’s most beloved fairy tale stories, and the lessons held within.

The newest addition to ATY's Drama Center curriculum is here! Designed with young actors in mind, this class is rooted in dance and creative movement, but will focus on storytelling using our bodies as the primary tool! Story Movers will promote creativity and both gross and fine motor skills.

Detective Drama
Calling all young mystery lovers! Drama Detectives is another new Drama Center addition with young actors in mind. This mystery themed class will focus on ensemble building and working as a team to find solotions to problems as they arise in the story. This class will also serve as a fundamental building block to introduce basic improvisational principals, and will promote creative problem solving and critical thinking skills!

Brand new to acting and the wide world of theatre? Step out of your comfort zone to explore the very basics of theatre in an open and encouraging class environment. Together, we will learn how to use our bodies, voices, and imaginations to create characters and tell stories and promote the confidence needed to do so in front of an audience of our peers. This class serves as a wonderful opportunity to shape the foundation for further acting training.

Ages 8-10 | 6 Weeks | Price $150
Designed for anyone with acting experience or who has taken classes with ATY before, our new ongoing series is designed to build on foundational knowledge. Each series will focus on a new component of acting techniques, character development, and theatre movement styles to become better storytellers. We will use a combination of games, exercises, and scene work to practice and deepen our understanding of each new component.

Ages 10+ | 6 weeks | Price $150
Only open to students who have previously completed four Acting 1 classes, this advanced acting class will draw upon all previous theatre experience to build a deeper understanding of the craft. Each series will focus on a different acting component as we learn to apply voice and breath work, text analysis, and movement styles to our character development and scene work. We will use games, exercises, and scene work to apply these developing principles.

This Intro to Improv class is the perfect choice for beginner improvisers of all ages and skill levels! Together we will work to build confidence, stretch our imaginations, and establish acting basics through short form improv games and exercises. Get ready to “Yes, And!” your way into this barrel of monkeys!
Wednesdays, November 6th - December 18th from 5:00-6:00 Class will not meet the week of Thanksgiving

Ages 8-10 | 6 Weeks. | Price $150
Only open to students who have previously completed at least one Improv class, this mixed level improv class will draw upon all previous theatre experience and challenge participants to think outside the box. The combination of all upper level classes will allow us to explore larger group exercises. We will explore advanced improv techniques, games, and both short and longer form improvisation.

Ages 10+ | 6 Weeks | Price $150
When performing a song, your acting begins even before the first note of the music. This class will help students select music, analyze the song for acting beats to connect to the material, practice vocal techniques, and result in a more captivating performance. By the end of the course, each student will have at least two songs analyzed, prepared, and audition ready.

Together we will spend 4 days casting, rehearsing, and designing a one-act play. Winter Break with ATY is the perfect time to explore your creativity and passion for the performing arts! This camp will help develop acting skills, learn new techniques, and make new friends. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting out, our winter break theatre camp is the perfect opportunity to nurture your love for the stage!

Price $275
Each day will have specific show objectives for the students to work on, lunchtime hour in the park (weather permitting), and a specialty workshop designed to help students flex their actor's toolbox. Camp will culminate in an informal performance for friends and family.

What is Drama Center?
Drama Center encompasses all of ATY’s after school classes, in-service programming, spring and winter break programming, special classes and workshops, and more!
Where do Drama Center classes take place?
Most classes take place at our studio in the Turnagain Arts Building. 4105 Turnagain Blvd. Classes not taking place in the ATY studio will be noted directly in the class description and on the registration page.
I signed up for a 4-week session, will this class take place again next month?
Improv, Acting and Fairytale afterschool classes are recurring classes that happen every month in 4-6 week sessions. Specialty classes like puppetry, stage combat, dance, music theatre and others may only run for a limited number of weeks.
